NCAA Considering Proposal to Allow College Athletes, Staff to Bank On Professional Sports

The Division I Council introduced the proposal that will be considered this fall and be implemented if Divisions II and III also authorize.
The NCAA would still bar banking on college sports betting and sharing info about college events with gamblers. Advertising and sponsorships related to betting are also not enabled at NCAA champion occasions.

Dr. Deena Casiero, the NCAA’s primary medical officer, stated allowing professional sports wagering might be more efficient and realistic than an “abstinence-only” approach, clearing the way for education and better understanding of the threats.

“By fulfilling student-athletes where they are, schools may be more effective at preventing, recognizing and supporting student-athletes with problematic betting behaviors,” Casiero stated.
